If you have getTileURL function, which provide overlay tiles - yes.
If you give example - I can check.
PS if grid draws over map (with projection and so on) - it is not supported yet.

maybe it works with a gpx file?
On my test page I also use a gpx file for the administrative boundaries.

Maybe I can only generate an MTB grid for the state of Brandenburg?
