Updating fro Joomla 3 to 4 was created by frete
Is this the correct way to upgrade from Joomla 3 to 4 if you want to keep all maps and data?

1. In Joomla 3, deactivate Zh OpenStreetMap (all modules/plugins/component).
2. Upgrade to Joomla 4.
3. Install Zh OpenStreetMap for Joomla 4.

Or should one do it in another way?

Yes, I think you wrote correctly. DO NOT uninstall extension. Just upload version for j4.

And just uninstall plugins for j3 version

Ok, good to hear that you are looking into it.

I tried both to install the whole package (after unzipping as it says) and just the component zip-file, but the same error occurs. Module and plugin installed ok it seems (but I have not had the possibility to try them since the component is not working).

I have hundreds of maps/paths/place marks so I really hope there is a solution without having to reinstall everything.
