I didn't create this one because I haven't external database to test. But I can try to create configuration to manage it.

I think I will try on my host (enter exists information for current joomla test server). And will do next release.

Check Extension manager for new release.
In visualization section there is Server section.
Create new one server, and assign it in Data Source (below SQL text).

I think it should work
