You have to do 3 task
1 assign category to group
2 in map details where you activate group features select value for type with category. In my posts about it I show images
3 in override set level

That is exactly what I did.
1. I have a map with category A. Groups view is configured (Group by Category)
2. I have a group with a category C. C category is undercategory of B.
3. I created an override with the category B.
4. I set the override in map details.
You can view it here (the bird called Ada):

For example.
Your Ada (category A) assign to group 2017 wiosna
Then
Your category Ada has parent category Bird (category B )
Your category Bird has parent category Creatures (category C)
Then if you set in override
level 1 - you'll see C->B->A->groups
level 2 - you'll see B->A->groups
level 3 - you'll see A->groups

Now I see your way of thinking.
So this is tricky because "Get categories up to Level 5" to me means that it will display category 1 and 4 further subcategories.
You count it differently and this was the problem.
I do not know, whether I am the only one who thinks that way, but this ishow I understood it.
Now my map is working, although I see a small problem: the parent category "mark" field is grey by default. You can mark/unmark it afterwards anyway.
Thank you!

I'll add another values to count.
Like - up 1 level, up 2 levels
In this case group has A category.
Up 1 level will be B->A
Up 2 levels will be C->B->A
Ie count parent categories for each category
Moreover I'll add Expand level, on which I need to open tree.
As for grey - it is bug in library. I wrote about that to author, but it doesn't fix it. I hope he will do it

OK, question:
Where can I change the look of the map with the list? I would need the location of the template files.
Thank you!
